'The law will catch up to you', says Selayang MP on corruption

SHAH ALAM - Selayang MP William Leong Jee Keen says the issue pertaining to corruption must be dealt with quickly to assure the people that there is a rule of law and politicians are not above it.

He said the most important thing in corruption cases was to be confident in the judicial system to act without political intervention.

“Politicians must also bear in mind if they did anything (corruption), they must face the full measure of the law.

"This is also to remind the politicians and those in power that the law will catch up to you," he told reporters during a media visit at Sinar Karangkraf here, today.

He said during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, there had been initiatives introduced for the anti-corruption movement, like the establishment of the Governance Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC).

However, he said after the government changed, no efforts were seen to fight against corruption and cases like the allegations with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Azam Baki, it did not reflect the anti-corruption movement.

“The best we can see is the conviction of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor but that also happened because of PH,” he said.

He said that what needed to be seen after the PH government was initiatives to continue the efforts against corruption but based on observation, it was not very convincing.

“It is not so convincing (lack of initiative) to show that there is a strong focus to fight corruption.

“Some people even think we are going back to how it was before,” he said.

During the media visit, Leong, joined by Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil met Karangkraf Chairman Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub and representatives from various departments in the company.
