SHAH ALAM - An expert has encouraged companies to use options to notify them of malware to help them remove the virus from the system.

Chasseur Group Chief Executive Officer Munira Mustaffa said the options alerts should be fully utilised.

"It is often underutilised option.

"You could use that to alert the company whenever there is a malware that needs to be removed," she said.

Munira was one of the panelists in Sinar Daily's Wacana English Edition programme entitled "Data & Security: Are We Safe?" which was aired live on Sinar Daily's digital platforms, tonight.

Other panelists during the one-hour live talk show were Cybersecurity Malaysia Senior Vice President for Strategic Research Division Sazali Sukardi and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil.

She said Android Package Kit (APK) is a file format that Android uses it to distribute installed Apps by Google to release source code for Android under open source licence.

It is opened to a large community of developers and enthusiasts to create and show their talent, but sadly it is often taken advantage of by creating malware, she said.

"Definitely there are people who are going to abuse this opportunity and I don't recommend outright banning as it's not a good solution and you are just going to end up disrupting the technical solution," she said.

Due to that, she said it would be best to remind people to access with caution links allowed into their devices and further suggested to the authorities to come up with effective policies.
