ALOR SETAR - Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) aims to contest in two Parliament and five State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in Kedah for the 15th General Elections (GE15).

Gerakan President Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said the two Parliamentary seats were Alor Setar and Sungai Petani.

He said the proposed five DUN were Kota Darulaman, Derga, Sidam, Bakar Arang dan Lunas.

"We received the list and would extend the application towards central for a discussion.

"This included all views, suggestions, help and strategies that they (Kedah) asked," he said at the press conference after he officiated the 2022 Kedah Parti Gerakan Annual Delegate Conference, here, on Friday.

He said other candidates and areas that were discussed would be evaluated and analysed to be brought to central Perikatan Nasional (PN) as seat negotiations and so on.

"We explained to the representatives that the negotiation mandate of the seats would be given to central completely for discussions in PN levels," he said.

Lau said there was no doubt there would be an overlap between the PN component party in certain areas for the issue of candidacy.

"We will take it as something positive because this situation means PN has many qualified candidates.

"However, candidates suggested by each party should be considered through the factors of the party and candidate," he said.

He said the factor intended was in terms of support from the party machinery.

"For candidates, it is whether the individual is accepted by the public or could win with a high percentage.

"We at Gerakan have no problems because we want to ensure PN's victory, anyone can be a candidate and we would accept them if they fulfil the factors involved," he said.
