SHAH ALAM – Malaysia is in dire need of more ‘murabbi’ – wise, pious and considerate educators and mentors – to stand forward and fight against corruption for the betterment of the country.

This was opinion of Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah who also rallied for ‘murabbi’ to play a more proactive role in eradicating corruption by way instilling morality and spirituality to the younger generations.

“These special teachers play a very important role in educating in nurturing religious and moral awareness.

“At a time when the country is beset by ailments borne by corruption, we need more ‘murabbi’ to come forward and reverberate the call to fight corruption,” stressed Sultan Nazrin in his royal speech at a book launching event at Karangkraf Mall, here, today.

The book he launched was Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan’s ‘Corruption and Hypocrisy in Malay Muslim Politics – The Urgency of Moral-Ethical Transformation.’

The ‘murabbi’ however, were not the only one whom Sultan Nazrin believed should be at forefront in combatting corruption in country.

“The activists who are involved in anti-corruption movements, must have a strong spirit, emulating the spirit of the ‘Ashabul Kahfi’ youths,” he added.

He was referring to the story of a group of seven youths whose faith remained steadfast even in the face of a tyrannical government and were thus given God’s protection as they laid asleep in a cave for hundreds of years.
