SHAH ALAM - Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar has been appointed as chairman of the newly formed Malaysian Film and Music Advisory Council.

The Malaysian Artists Association in a Facebook posting congratulated her on the posting.

Before joining politics, Khaidhirah or better known as Dira was active in the world of acting.

She won the Rim seat during Melaka state election in November last year.

On Saturday, Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa announced that the government had agreed to establish the council to formulate more proactive policies to help industry players.

He said the formation of the new council was made to help the country's film and music industry after the Covid-19 pandemic.

He had also praised local movies such as Mat Kilau and also the film 'Air Force'.

“Mat Kilau collected almost RM100 million. And now, ‘Air Force’ is also achieving tens of millions at the box office. That means the industry can make great strides if there are quality movies.

“So, to progress further, our film industry need experts to advise the government and the industry. We could select seven to 10 people from the film industry and another seven to 10 from the music industry for the council,” he had said.
