KUALA LUMPUR - Barisan Nasional Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the prime minister has received an "obvious signal" that general elections cannot be delayed as the coalition aims for victory after its shocking defeat in 2018 polls.

He told premier Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the signal was "loud and clear that now is the time" to hold elections and this has been discussed several times.

Zahid also questioned if there was an "instigator" that is delaying the 15th general elections.

"My chemistry with the prime minister is still strong. We have no problems. GE15 must be held this year.

"What we need is we must build strength with ideas, as the prime minister has said we must have a reform agenda," he told hundreds of youths at BN youth election machinery launch at Stadium Titiwangsa, here.

He added they are still waiting to know when elections will be held, however he said there are consequences if it is held during monsoon season end of the year.

“But if the prime minister dissolves the Parliament, we will go through floods to campaign. Plus, during floods youths, Puteri and assemblymen could also follow,” he said.

Zahid further encourgaed a hybrid campaign where the youth, Puteri and Wanita BN work together.

He further said Ismail and Tok Mat will not forget the contribution of young voters, stating that the upcoming Budget 2023 could see more being offered to youths.
