KOTA BHARU - Umno is still not at peace until now due to the continuous internal division at the party's state and central levels.

Gua Musang MP Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Tengku Mohd Hamzah admitted the matter and mentioned that there were parties in the party who were not unanimous and often intervened on the basis of political interests.

He said the situation occurred when the party was led by Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"The situation then and now is different because during the reign of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, he was in power and there were thirteen parties supporting the leadership.

"Zahid took over after Umno lost. We lost not only at the central level but in every states except Perlis and Pahang.

"There are disunions in Umno in the states and at the central level. It's not peaceful, even now.

“There are people who want to disturb the peace, but that's politics," he said.

He said this after the opening of the 24th (2022) Annual Representative General Meeting of the West Malaysian Malay Teachers Union Cooperative (KGMMB) Bhd at the Grand River View Hotel here on Friday.

Tengku Razaleigh said current issues including court cases involving politicians had also affected the people's support for Umno.

"For that reason, we always appeal for solidarity to create unity among us that no one can interfere with.

“You have to be united, if you are divided or one or two bring other stories, you will not be strong enough to fight the enemy.

"Umno's lifespan depends on the people. If the people still support Umno, Umno will continue to be upright, strong and powerful," he said.

In the meantime, Tengku Razaleigh said he did not understand the meaning of BN being said to be going solo because there were other component parties in BN.

"Previously, BN was defeated by PH in the 2018 General Election (GE) and at that time there were 13 component parties in BN from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

"They have an alliance that brings their respective strengths to help the candidates compete on one logo which is BN," he said.
