Najib still in HKL, 1MDB trial postponed
KUALA LUMPUR - Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial has been vacated today as the former prime minister is still receiving treatment and undergoing medical tests at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
His lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah informed the court of the matter during the proceedings of the corruption trial involving RM2.3 billion of funds from the sovereign wealth fund.
Shafee said although the original high blood pressure medication was given to his client, the latter’s blood pressure was still at an unsatisfactory level.
He said Najib himself was not informed on how long he would be admitted in the HKL ward.
"He said he would not be surprised if he was placed in HKL for a long period because of the multiple tests he had to undergo.
"The medical leave certificate (MC) prepared by the Prisons Department stated the he will be on leave for two days starting Wednesday," he said.
However, Shafee said the original MC could not be obtained because it was sent though WhatsApp by the Prisons Department.
Najib, 69, is facing four counts of using his position to obtain bribes totalling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
The trial continues on Sept 26.
