SHAH ALAM – The family of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has pleaded under humanitarian grounds to allow him to undergo proper medical care and observation.

Special officer to the former premier Muhammad Mukhlis Maghribi in a statement said doctors found multiple ulcers which is a recurring problem for the past 15 years.

He said Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) did a biopsy yesterday which led to bleeding and several ulcers had to be clipped to stop the bleeding.

“Najib has requested for observation at HKL. But was denied and the doctor discharged him, changed his medication from the usual that he had been taking for years and sent him back to Kajang,” he said.

Mukhlis further said a medical test this morning showed Najib’s blood pressure had been dangerously high due to the change of his prescription.

“This led to the deputy public prosecutors telling the judge this morning that Najib's health condition was bad and will need to be sent to hospital,” he said.

Mukhlis said Najib's ailment had been public knowledge because, in 2010, he was hospitalised for the same case and he had also been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) last year for about a week where he had five blood transfusions to replace the blood loss due to internal bleeding.

At the High Court today, Najib’s hearing for the case of misappropriation of RM2.3 billion in 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds was cut short after the judge was informed that the former prime minister was in need of medical attention.
