Muda questions govt over measures to prevent year-end floods
SHAH ALAM - Political party Muda has urged Putrajaya to come up with a solution to prevent floods as monsoon season approaches.
Its deputy president Zaidel Baharuddin said the environment and water (Kasa) minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man should lay out a holistic approach in facing climate change.
"Approaches such as reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon, environmental protection, renewable energy generation policy and reduction hydrocarbon fuel for vehicles must be handled urgently.
"We are still unclear about the direction of the government," he said in a statement.
Zaidel also said the government must achieve goals established by the Kyoto Protocol. "This is not a light issue, it has a deep impact to the economy, food safety and quality of people's.
"The position of a minister is not a mere political reward, rank and privilege. It comes with a heavy responsibility and trust," he said, adding that the minister must lay out a comprehensive action plan as the country had done to manage the Covid-19 pandemic.
Major floods are expected in Peninsula Malaysia end of this year as the northeast monsoon begins.
