Skateboarders win up to RM200 cash at GrindBaru 8

SHAH ALAM - Malaysia’s first skateboarding festival, Grindbaru 8 kicks off at the Shah Alam Extreme Park, here,today.

Over 300 visitors participated in the event including parents who brought their children aged six and above to enjoy fun activities.

Among the activities were the Cash 4 Tricks game in which participants have to perform a skateboarding stunt set by the organiser.

A winner of the contest who received cash prize of RM40 was Sofea Aidura, 23, who came all the way from Johor to show off her skateboarding skills.

Sofea did the ollie, slides, nollie and heelflip tricks.

"I came all the way from Johor just to attend Grindbaru 8, but I have to go back this evening since I'm working tomorrow.

"I won the money for my ollie, slides, nollie and heelflip tricks," she said when interviewed by Sinar Daily.

She added that she enjoyed the event and would definitely join the next one if it was organised again in the future.

Meanwhile, Eyman TK, 34, who won more than RM35 for performing his skateboarding tricks said he was involved in the arena for over 20 years.

“Actually, it took me over two years to learn all the tricks as well as following the fellow skaters step-by-step," he said.

He said he won the money after doing his boardslide, ollie and slide tricks.

Sharing a tip, Eyman said balancing and timing were very important in skateboarding.

Anaqi, 22, one of the contestants who won the most cash in Cash 4 Tricks which was over RM155 said he was not foreign to skateboarding.

He said his participation in skateboarding events was however limited as he was still a student.

“All I did was join every trick and then I even requested to do some tricks that I am very good at. That's how I won the money.

"There were other participants who won a lot more cash. There was a person who even won around RM200 (in the game).

"But I am still happy with what I got," he said.

Anaqi added that he could see himself being involved in the skatebording community for a long time.
