Grindbaru 8 kicks off, bringing skateboarding and local communities together
SHAH ALAM - Skateboarders of all ages have come to skate their hearts away at the Shah Alam Extreme Park as Malaysia’s first skateboarding festival, Grindbaru 8 officially kicks off this morning.
Many skaters as young as six were accompanied by their parents who came to show support for their kids who participated in a skate clinic,
The skate clinic was taught by major skate schools such as Arco Skateschool, JRSkates, School of Skateboarding and Elite Skate Academy.
Arco Skateshop owner, Ridhuan Jalaludin who is also the organiser behind Grindbaru 8 said the event is estimated to welcome about 3000 visitors.
A skateboard instructor from Sarawak who wanted to be known as Danny, 41, attended the skate clinic to check out the talents of the young skaters.
“It is very nice to see how eager all these children are to learn and I can tell that for some of them, this is not their first time skateboarding.
“I am happy to see how this sport has received such great response,” he said in an interview with Sinar Daily.
There are many activities and competitions lined up in this full day event, such as a skateboarding race, a session for female skateboarders to show off their talents, surf skate session, and more.
There will also be a DIY art workshop hosted by Arco Skateshop.
Tonight, the main highlight of the event which is the Grindbaru 8 competition will see skateboarders battle it out on customised obstacles.
