Its acting director Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rizal Buang said the department was always in a state of preparedness, especially in facing the La Nina phenomenon with a lot of rain which was expected to continue until November.
"We conduct courses for enhancement to ensure our firemen are always prepared and not forget the standard operating procedure (SOP) and protocols when at work, especially when an aircraft is used in the rescue operations.
"With regard to preparedness in the aspects of training, equipment and landing locations to send supplies, all have to be prepared in facing any possibility," he added after visiting Kampung Peta which is among the areas frequently hit by floods including yesterday.
Mohd Rizal also expressed his appreciation for the Health Ministry and Iskandar Camp Special Operations Group which also participated in Johor JBPM’s integrated training course from Sept 4 until today for strengthening its Special Force Must Team involving 45 firemen.
Meanwhile, there has been proactive monitoring at 277 flood-prone areas in the state which is ready with a strength of about 1,400 firemen/rescuers, 800 volunteers, 200 bomba bantuan as well as air, water and assets ready to be mobilised.
Mohd Rizal also reminded parents of the risk of bringing their children to the waterfalls, rivers and beaches during the rainy season.
Earlier, he joined an aerial monitoring exercise in a JBPM Mi-17 helicopter over several flood-prone areas including the Kampung Peta Orang Asli settlement and the islands off Mersing. - Bernama
