Formerly owned by Boustead Holding Berhad, PKCT is now owned by Northport (Malaysia) Bhd's subsidiary Klang Port Management Sdn Bhd and Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd.
"I am confident with the efforts made by the PKCT, the terminal can be a catalyst for the growth of the domestic and international tourism sector, as well as to regenerate income of the tourism industry in Selangor which has been badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic," said the Sultan when opening the terminal today.
The Sultan suggested that facilities and infrastructure at the terminal be improved to make it into an international passenger cruise terminal, as well as for the terminal to be used as a venue to exhibit and promote local handicraft products.
The state government can work with PKCT to promote high-quality local handicraft products to cruise passengers by holding exhibitions at the terminal, he added.
The ceremony was also attended by the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Also present were Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Meanwhile, PKCT chairman Datuk Azman Shah Mohd Yusof said plans were afoot to expand the wharf at the terminal to allow more cruise ships to dock, as well as upgrade facilities at the terminal to accommodate more passengers.
"Our aim is to make PKCT a catalyst for the growth of the country’s tourism industry and a driver of Selangor's economy", he said. - BERNAMA
