Jho Low allegedly being protected in China, Rewcastle-Brown says
SHAH ALAM - Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown claims that fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low involved in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal is being protected by the Chinese government.
She claimed that this was because China was one of the parties involved in helping former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on the case.
"China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) is one of the companies involved illegally in helping Najib steal and launder billions of Malaysian money and Jho Low is the person who arranged all that for Najib in China.
"So it is not possible that China will allow Jho Low to be on the witness stand or accused in any court outside China, they will not do it because he (Jho Low) has strong evidence.
"I don't expect Jho Low to leave China, maybe until there is a new president ruling China. Maybe later, but not now," she said in a programme with Zack Rockstar titled 'Get The Crooks Back Out Of Power' on Saturday.
The one-hour-long programme was broadcasted live on Kelab Gelombang Keadilan’s social media including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
The media previously reported that Jho Low was allegedly seen at Disneyland, Shanghai on Christmas Eve 2019 where the 'new clue' was found based on a recording of a face said to resemble him.
Meanwhile, when asked about Jho Low's role in the scandal, Rewcastle-Brown claimed that Najib was a powerful individual but he needed a proxy and Jho Low was his person.
She said the businessman could be likened to the Russian oligarchy, but the Malaysian version.
"Najib needs a middleman who will act as a proxy to interact with other crooks who will help him steal money from Malaysia.
"Jho Low is ready to do that and he can be considered as one of the oligarchs of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin," she said.
