Pas only has itself to blame, Zahid says on Umno going solo
SHAH ALAM - Umno president Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi says the Malay party went solo after Pas broke the thrusts build under Muafakat Nasional.
This comes after Pas deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man earlier said that the Islamist party has never declared the dissolution of the Muafakat Nasional political coalition.
Zahid said the cooperation between Umno and Pas was not mere “political rhetoric”, but rather an idealism almost like the “American Dream”.
“But from what I see, Pas’ political contribution in Muafakat Nasional was shallow as they did not have the rakyat's interests in mind.
“Now, Umno needs to move forward, and the party has decided to go solo due to PAS’ own actions. There’s no shame in saying that Pas is playing it safe by dipping its fingers into too many pies. That’s the political reality we are facing today,” said Zahid.
“How can stability, confidence and strong cooperation be established if the most basic thing like principle and faith are ignored?
“It is clear that they want to destroy Umno from within.
“The key to success and political stability of Muafakat Nasional was trust, and this trust was broken by Pas when they chose to join a coalition under Bersatu,” he said in his Facebook post, today.
He further said the spirit of Muafakat Nasional is not just about political cooperation but as a form of a national coalition that includes Rukun Negara and the supremacy of the Constitution.
Zahid further said the coalition was born from two urgent needs after the rakyat had lost confidence in the government at that time, an offer to all Malaysians to lead the country responsibly.
“The rakyat were also losing faith in the Pakatan Harapan government, and the future did not look bright. That is why Muafakat Nasional was formed to lead the country back on the right path," he added.
However, he said Pas decided to join hands with Bersatu under Perikatan Nasional and due to that Umno had decided to go solo.
