No party gets an easy majority in GE15 – Dr M
KUALA LUMPUR - Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) Chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is confident that no party will gain an easy majority to form a government in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
The former prime minister said the strongest party in the country was also expected to work with other parties to form a government after the general election.
"I'm sure this time no party can get 50 per cent more (seats) because it's not just the two parties that are competing.
"There are many parties now, but none of them are serious about committing as a prime minister," he said at a press conference here on Saturday.
He had earlier officiated the National Assembly 2022 of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa) Party.
Dr Mahathir who is also Pejuang Chairman said GTA was ready to work with other parties to form a government.
However, he said the coalition would not cooperate with a party that lacked integrity and was involved in corrupt practices.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said Warisan was not currently part of the GTA coalition.
He also claimed that the coalition received encouraging support from the community in Sabah and Sarawak.
In fact, he said, the strength of the support was seen as more numerous than in the Peninsular.
At the same time, Dr Mahathir said the GTA coalition would not nominate any leader as the Prime Minister's candidate ahead of GE15.
The four parties under the current GTA coalition are (Pejuang), Berjasa, Malaysia Mighty Bumiputera Party (Putra) and National Indian Muslim Alliance Party (IMAN).
