SHAH ALAM - The prison sentence and fines that the Federal Court decides upon former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is not the end of Umno's fight.

Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said this instead would be the catalyst that strengthened the party to unite and fight.

"They expected the Umno flames to be extinguished with Najib's sentence.

"They hoped their tricks would be easier to execute and accomplished, but it turns out they made a mistake in arranging the scheme," he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

Zahid said after the 14th General Election (GE14), several parties claimed that it was over for Umno.

"They want to end Umno's history however, the collective determination we had successfully prevented it," he said.

He said after the failure and seeing Umno rised, certain parties were seen as wanting to take charge of the biggest Malay party.

"However, with the collective determination of Umno members and leadership who are loyal, once again we are successful in preventing it.

"However, it can be seen how much they are scheming to capture and use Umno," he said.

At the same time, Zahid expressed his gratitude to Umno leadership who were still loyal and had not backed down in the struggle including Najib who had contributed so much to the party.
