SHAH ALAM - More youth in the country are more inclined to find jobs overseas due to several factors especially lucrative offers and work experience.

Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (Unirazak) Economist Professor Dr Barjoyai Bardai said the youths were even fine with working in the 3D (dirty, dangerous and difficult) sectors abroad.

He forecasted that the trend of finding work overseas would continue to rise in the near future.

"For example, we have seen the trend of Malaysians working in Singapore rising with an estimated 400,000 workers working in the republic, even becoming dishwashers due to better salaries.

"Most countries overseas need the workforce for certain sectors, this then opens more opportunities for Malaysians to work there.

"Even the 72.1 per cent of Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) graduates who do not want to resume their studies as revealed by the Statistics Department recently will be contributing to the trend increase," he told Sinar Harian.

Dr Barjoyai said Singapore was still the main choice followed by Australia, United Kingdom, New Zealand and Japan.

He said Malaysians who worked overseas only planned to work for a short-term period.

"Those finding their livelihood overseas are most likely workers that are less skilled.

"For the 3D sectors overseas, they use technology and provide experience and new skills for Malaysians thus finally bringing benefits to the country when they return home," he said
