PUTATAN - Fine will not be enforced to premise owners for not waving the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags in the state.

However, Sabah Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya said the governments and local authorities had always called on owners to wave the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags at their own premises.

"As far as I know, in Sabah there is no provision or enforcement of fines for such (fines for premise owners not waving the flags).

"However, the government through local authorities had always called on premises owners and to participate in the month of independence by waving the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags as a sign there is a sense of patriotism towards the state and the country," he told reporters at Kampung Sipanggil, here today.

He was asked to comment if premise owners in the state would be fined if they did not wave the Jalur Gemilang at their premises, similar to Perak.

He called for the flags to be waved neatly and with respect as it represented the symbol of national sovereignty.

Previously, his survey findings around Putatan City showed the efforts to wave the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags had been received well by the public including business premises.

"We have seen several stores waving the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags but there are those who haven't and we will take the opportunity to distribute flags for them to decorate their premises thus igniting the independence month," he said.
