PUTRAJAYA - "There will be no media statement", says Datuk Seri Najib Razak's former lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah when he arrived at the Federal Court lobby, today.

Shafee was seen at the court's vicinity at about 10am before he entered the courtroom where the former prime minister's final appeal was being heard.

The senior lawyer then left the court at about 11.05am.

Earlier, Najib's lead counsel Hisyam Teh Poh Teik informed the court that he had asked for assistance from Shafee to submit in the application to recuse Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat from presiding over the appeal.

On July 26, the Pekan MP had discharged Shafee and law firm Messrs Shafee & Co from representing him in the final appeal to set aside his conviction and jail sentence as well as the fine over the misappropriation of RM42 million funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd.

Shafee and his lawyers had represented Najib in the SRC International case since July 4, 2018.
