Najib makes 'sumpah mubahalah' at Kampung Baru mosque
KUALA LUMPUR - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has taken the 'sumpah mubahalah' (swearing in the face of divine retribution) at the Kampung Baru mosque on Sunday night.
He read out the text of the oath after he performed the Isya prayers and solat hajat (special prayers) at the mosque ahead of the proceedings of his final appeal at the Federal Court, on Tuesday.
Najib had solemly sworn that he did not know whether the RM42 miilion funds were from SRC International Sdn Bhd funds directly or indirectly up until now.
"Secondly, I had never published or agreed to establish SRC International for the purpose of embezzling the funds for my personal use or for my family.
"Thirdly, I had never instructed any SRC directors or officials to siphon the company's money into my personal account for any reason.
"Fourthly, I was never involved in the cabinet meeting to approve government guarantees for the loan from the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) for RM4 billion to SRC to obtain ill-gotten gains amounting to RM42 million," he said in the oath.
Earlier, the pekan MP in his speech said he hoped that he will get justice and that the truth will prevail.
Najib with his son Nor Ashman arrived at the mosque at about 8.20pm before his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor joined them afterwards.
Several Umno leaders including its secretary-general Datuk Ahmad Maslan and Kelantan liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub were also present.
The hearing of Najib's final appeal at the Federal Court to set aside his conviction and 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine over the misappropriation of RM42 million funds from SRC International will continue on Tuesday.
On July 28, 2020, the Kuala Lumpur High Court found him guilty of abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust charges.
On Dec 8, last year, the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal and maintained his conviction.
