SHAH ALAM - A man has been detained after he allegedly threatened Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat on social media at his home in Puchong last night.

Federal police corporate communication head Assistant Commisioner (ACP) Skandaguru Anandan said the 30-year old man was arrested at 11.15 pm for further investigation.

"Police also has seized a mobile phone with a simcard, which is believed to have been used to upload the threat.

"The suspect will be remanded for four days from Aug 20 until 23,” he said in a statement.

Skandaguru said the police were taking this matter seriously and won't tolerate any action that involves criminal misconduct or public order issues that might threaten the peace.

He said strict measure would be taken into action against any party if found abusing social media platforms.

Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani had instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to probe threats issued against the Chief Justice.

He had said this was a serious issue and police had initiated an investigation despite not receiving any report.
