Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya said eight main roads around Dataran Merdeka will be closed and diverted for safety purposes and to ensure the event runs smoothly.
"We (police) advise the public, including participants involved in the National Day celebrations, to arrive early. We also encourage them to take the public transport such as the LRT (light rail transit) and MRT (mass rapid transit).
"Those not using public transport, must make sure that their vehicles are parked properly and not obstructing traffic. We have identified a number of car park locations, among them Jalan Tanglin, the Tanglin Health Clinic area and in front of the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters," he said when appearing as guest on Selamat Pagi Malaysia programme over RTM1 today.
Noor Dellhan said about 1,100 police personnel would be deployed to ensure public safety and smooth running of the National Day 2022 parade which is expected to be held from 8am until 11am.
He said three layers of security would be carried out on that day, involving the internal layer, namely Dataran Merdeka area itself; the perimeters outside and three-kilometre radius from Dataran Merdeka.
"Several police personnel will also be tasked to monitor the 112 closed-circuit cameras around Dataran Merdeka to prevent untoward incidents," he said. - BERNAMA
