NEW DELHI - Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan's top aide Shahbaz Gill was taken to a hospital in Islamabad on Wednesday night amid claims of torture in police custody.

Gill, the chief of staff for Imran's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was arrested by the Islamabad police on August 9 following his controversial remarks on television about the army.

Imran and other top PTI leaders have said Gill was stripped naked and subjected to torture after his arrest.

An Islamabad lower court judge on Wednesday approved another two-day physical remand of Gill for police interrogation.

Later in the day his health deteriorated and he was taken from jail to hospital.
