SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has instructed Mara to continue its Digital Mall project to open up opportunities for young Bumiputeras to be involved as IT entrepreneurs.

Ismail Sabri yesterday made a surprise visit to Mara Digital Kuala Lumpur, a project he said was close to his heart.

“It was created to develop Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the field of IT and gadgets whether selling products, repair and others," he said in a Facebook post.

He said several Mara Digital malls had been established such as in Shah Alam, Kuantan, Ipoh and several identified places such as Larkin Johor, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Bharu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

Ismail Sabri said that after Pakatan Harapan government took over, Mara Digital was closed and new projects did not proceed.

However, he found out that traders said they could still afford to continue their business as sales were increasing but it needed support from Mara such as promotions, loan assistance, rental rate reductions and others.

Mara Digital Mall Kuala Lumpur was opened after an incident at Low Yat Plaza in 2015 involving a Malay man who was caught stealing at a local mobile phone store in the mall.

However, Mara Digital Mall Kuantan was closed in 2018 while Mara Digital Mall Johor ceased operations in 2019, with both malls closing down within a span of three months.
