SHAH ALAM - Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has urged for the amendment of the citizenship law to be tabled in the next Parliament sitting.

He said this in response to Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement that the issue will only be included in BN's manifesto in the coming General Election (GE15).

"We must help them now," Syed Saddiq wrote in a tweet, today.

He said it was ridiculous as it was an urgent issue and there was no need to wait for GE15 to be held to table the constitutional amendment.

He added that he was present in court, last week with the mothers who were affected by the law and will support the constitutional amendment.

Zahid on Sunday said BN will include the issue of Malaysian mothers who are married to foreign spouses to automatically obtain citizenship for their children born overseas, in the party's manifesto in GE15.

He said among the party's resolutions for GE15 were to set up a university and a bank for women.

He said this during the Wanita BN convention, in Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday.
