KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- The government is considering the proposal for the construction of another Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) campus in the federal capital to support the university's internationalisation mission.

Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the proposed construction of the new campus would boost UniKL's role as an instrument of national economic growth.

"It is also to attract more international students to Malaysia," he said in his speech at UniKL's 17th and 18th convocation which was opened by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, who is also the UniKL Chancellor.

The ceremony was also attended by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Mahdzir, who is also UniKL pro-chancellor, said the government will continue to help with the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (T-VET), which UniKL is striving for, including opening new campuses in Perlis and Pahang in the fields of sustainable logistics, water engineering, agricultural technology and building technology.

It also included the construction of a satellite campus in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, he added.

On UniKL’s achievements, Mahdzir said that the university, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is among the 15 Malaysian universities featured in the Times Higher Education and QS University Ranking.

In terms of graduates' marketability, he said all 12 UniKL campuses were listed in the top 20 among private universities and colleges in the tracer study conducted by the Ministry of Higher Education.

A total of 10,547 graduates of UniKL received their scrolls at the convocation ceremony , held in 13 sessions, from today until Aug 17. - BERNAMA
