SHAH ALAM - A restaurant owner landed herself in trouble for displaying various protected turtle species illegally after the premises was raided by the authorities on July 20.

Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director-general Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said the operation at about 5pm was carried out with personnel from the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia.

He said among the species of turtles seized were Juku Juku Besar, Baning, Chinese Stripe-Necked Turtle, Amboina Box Turtle and Red-Eared Slider which were estimated to be worth over RM5,000.

"Preliminary investigation found that the turtles were placed in a pool at the premises believed to be for display," he told Sinar Harian on Friday.

The turtles which were seized were taken to the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD), Abdul Kadir said.

"The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010," he said.
