Squash: Aifa-Rachel, Yi Wei-Noor Ainaa Amani cruise into q-finals

BIRMINGHAM - Two national women’s squash doubles pairs - Aifa Azman-Rachel Arnold and Chan Yi Wei-Noor Ainaa Amani Ampandi - are through to the quarter-finals of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games here.

In today’s round of 16 matches at the University of Birmingham Squash and Hockey Centre here, Aifa-Rachel downed Pakistan’s Faiza Zafar-Amna Fayyaz 11-7, 11-6 while Yi Wei-Noor Ainaa Amani ousted Canada’s Nicole Bunyan-Hollie Naughton 11-4, 11-3.

In the quarter-finals on Aug 5, Aifa-Rachel will take on India’s Joshana Chinappa-Dipika Pallikal Karthik while Yi Wei-Noor Ainaa Amani will face Australians Donna Lobban-Rachael Grinham.

Meanwhile, Ong Sai Hung-Mohammad Syafiq Mohd Kamal brushed aside Shawn Simpson-Khamal Cumberbatch 11-3, 11-7 in the men’s doubles round of 32 today and will take on England’s Adrian Waller-Daryl Selby next.

Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow-Yuen Chee Wern, who received a bye in the men’s doubles round of 32, and will take on New Zealand siblings Temwa Chileshe-Lwamba Chileshe in the round of 16 on Aug 5. - BERNAMA
