Let Anwar serve as PM once, Adam Adli says

SHAH ALAM - Let opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim serve as the Prime Minister once and see if he can fulfil his promises to the people, says Adam Adli.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Youth Chief commented that when asked about his view on claims that Anwar made a promise to lower the price of oil to RM1.50 if he was appointed as Prime Minister in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

Adam said he was there when the ‘promise’ was made and Anwar did not specifically said that he would reduce the price to RM1.50 or give any number.

“He was just answering to insinuations made by some parties.

“If the voters wanted to see whether this could be done or not, give Anwar a chance to be the prime minister once,” he told Sinar Premium.

He said if Anwar’s whole speech was analysed, we would understand the latter was giving a guarantee, the way and formula to make it a reality.

However, Adam said this could not be done if Anwar continued to be the opposition leader and that was the essence of the speech.

When asked if he saw the promise to lower oil prices, the elimination of National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) debt, free education and free tolls would be able to attract the support of voters, especially young people to support Pakatan Harapan in GE15, Adam said the promises and commitments given by Anwar remain relevant.

“We can see that there are still many things and struggles that PH has not been resolved after GE14.

“For example, if BN gives RM100 aid, then we give RM200, or if the price of RON95 petrol under the BN government is sold at RM2, we will set it at RM1.90 per litre. We do not practice that,” he said.

He stressed that it was not the right way but we instead need a more concrete solution and have a pretty big short-term and long-term impact on PH.

An outstanding approach should be made with a bigger impact on the people.

Adam also urged the youths, especially those aged between 18 and 35 years to find out what PH and PKR could offer to young voters and the policies PKR want to implement such as the environment, unemployment and job opportunities among the younger generation, the food crisis, the cost of living and the price of goods.

He said he understood problems related to youths and the issues that needed to be resolved immediately through the introduction of new policies, far better than the current government practices.

“Second, I will focus on the rejuvenation process of the party by inviting more experienced young figures to lead PKR in the future,” he said.

He said he would join the party’s deputy president Rafizi Ramli in the 'Ayuh Malaysia' programme to reach out to the younger generation.

When asked on the dynamic between Anwar and Rafizi to get PKR back on track, Adam said he believed that the pair would be able to get he party back on track ahead of GE15.

Meanwhile, Adam said the Youth wing would continue its street demonstrations to urge the government to lower the price of goods, the cost of living and inflation.

“What I'm worried about after this is how the gathering is being investigated and speaking out on social media is being put on hold, whether even the mass media will be prevented from reporting on the critical issues that are currently faced by the people,” he said.

Street demonstrations, he said, were one of the channels for the youth to express their insistence and demands, especially in a space where the authorities even may be caught if the dissatisfaction was being expressed to the government on social media.
