PUTRAJAYA - There is a backlog of 72,348 estate distribution cases currently, with Kedah and Selangor recording the highest number with 13,423 and 10,358 respectively.

Energy and Natural Resources Deputy Minister Datuk Ali Biju said in resolving these cases, the ministry had upgraded the Federal Land Management and Estate Distribution System (MyeTaPP), and applied for the appointment of 100 contract staff from the Public Service Department.

He said the contract staff involved would be placed at the Estate Distribution Division (BPP), Department of Director-General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG) in states with a high number of estate distribution backlog cases.

"The contract appointments are a short-term measure, with the 100 staff assisting the BPP JKPTG across the country to solve the cases within the targeted period of three months," he told reporters after delivering his keynote address at the Land Administration Conference in conjunction with the National Land Day celebration 2022, here, today.

Ali said the MyeTaPP enhancement was made to ensure a relevant land administration by taking into consideration the needs of all the relevant parties and to remain competitive by applying the latest technology.

Ali said the Small Estates (Distribution) Act 1955 (Act 98) had been sent to the Attorney-General’s Chambers last June 24 for revision before enforcement soon.

Act 98 had been passed by Parliament last December after obtaining the consent of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to be gazetted and enforced.

The amendments involve the scope for new interpretation and provisions covering the jurisdiction in solving the distribution of small estates and providing alternatives for the people in easing managing of the applications for small estate distribution. - Bernama
