Motorcyclist killed after running red light
ALOR GAJAH – A motorcyclist who allegedly ran a red light was killed as he was rammed by a car at Gangsa intersection here, yesterday.
The 33-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene in the 10.45pm incident.
Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Arshad Abu said initial investigation found that at the time of the incident, a Honda City car driven by a 34-year-old man along with two passengers were travelling from Ayer Keroh towards Krubong.
"On arrival at the scene, the victim who was riding the RS150R motorcycle is believed to have not stopped when at the red light the driver of the car did not have time to evade and ended up crashing into the victim.
"The victim's body was sent to Alor Gajah Hospital for a post-mortem before being claimed by the victim’s next of kin.
"However, the driver and passenger of the car including a nine-month-old baby suffered only minor injuries," he said in a statement here on Monday.
The case is investigated in accordance with Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
