58 Baling flood victims moved to temporary evacuation centre
BALING – A total of 58 victims from 19 families have been moved to the Kampung Padang Empang temporary evacuation centre (PPS), Kupang after their homes were flooded yesterday.
Baling District Civil Defence Force Deputy Officer Lieutenant (PA) Dzulhaidy Mohd Khalil said the victims were evacuated in stages from 9pm yesterday as the water risen due to heavy rains on Thursday evening.
"The heavy rain around 2pm lasted for three hours causing the water to flood the homes of several residents especially those near the riverbank," he said.
Dzulhaidy said as much as 22 Civil Defence Force personnel were involved in the rescue and survey operations from time to time.
"The agencies involved advise all residents near the river path and lower ground areas to leave their homes for the safety of their lives and belongings.
"Until now, the river water has surpassed the Bailey bridge and it is ordered to close by police until the conditions have recovered and declared safe to be used," he said.
