SANDAKAN - The Sandakan Domestic Trade and Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) successfully foils a smuggling attempt of cooking oil amounting to 15,048 kilograms (kg) in a raid at an unnumbered house in Kampung Jawa 2, Batu 12, Jalan Sin Kee here last Wednesday

The 7.30pm raid also saw 436 boxes of subsidised cooking oil packets confiscated.

Sandakan KPDNHEP chief Azdy Zukkry John said a team of officers conducted the raid after a week of intel made for the said activity.

"Checks revealed 7,412 kg of different brands of one kilogram subsidised cooking oil packets, five white tanks comprising 7,500 kg of cooking oil and 136 kg of cooking oil in eight plastic barrels at the scene, which were successfully confiscated.

"The total amount of cooking oil packets seized were 15,048 kg which were believed to be meant for smuggling," he said in a statement on Thursday evening.

He said during the raid, no individuals were present at the scene.

"Based on initial information, the said premise did not have any permit nor a legal license to store subsidised goods."

"KPDNHEP officers then confiscated all the subsidised cooking oil found with the seized items valued at RM37,620," he said.

Azdy said the case would be investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for obtaining subsidised goods to commit an offence read together with Regulation 3(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974 for conducting transactions of subsidised goods without a license.

"The investigation will also be carried out under Section 20(1) of the same act for storing subsidised goods on locations without obtaining a permit from legal officers." he said.
