KUALA LUMPUR - The support given from Sinar Harian towards the KL Car Free Morning by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) by organising its16th Sinar Harian Fun Walk will increase the attraction of the public towards the weekly event.

Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Mahadi Che Ngah said he appreciated the support from the private sector to ensure the continuity of the event and the event was implemented to increase the green lifestyle and practices among the public.

He said such cooperation could highlight the KL Car Free Morning as one of the main tourist attractions of the city.

“With the coverage of the event, it would not only attract Kuala Lumpur residents but even the outsiders too.

“So everyone is welcomed to join," he said in an interview with Sinar Harian on Wednesday.

The Fun Walk will be held on July 31, and it would be one of the main programmes SInar Harian organised for its 16th anniversary.

The programme is open to the public with the participation of more than 500 Sinar Harian and Karangkraf staffs along with their family members.

The event would also be a platform to reach out to the readers.

On the KL Car Free Morning, Mahadi said over 5,000 people have joined the event every week since its launch nine years ago.

He said many visitors took the opportunity to participate in healthy activities such as walking, running and cycling with their families.

"With that it indirectly supports the practice of a healthy family lifestyle and shapes the citizens to have a healthy lifestyle and contribute to the development of the country publicly," he said.

At the same time, Mahadi said foreign tourists had also participated in the KL Car Free Morning programme, while some came to cycle around Kuala Lumpur.

He said among the main goals of organising the weekly event was to ensure the application of green mobilities such as bicycles and walking in the city.

"The objectives were done based on the Kuala Lumpur Low Carbon Society Blueprint 2030 plan targeting to lower the carbon emission in the city as much as 70 per cent in the year 2030," he said.

Mahadi said the implementation of KL Car Free Morning would be expanded in some areas around Kuala Lumpur in line with the development of the green mobility infrastructure such as cycling and pedestrian routes in the city.
