JOHOR BAHRU - Johor Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has confirmed the power cuts earlier today were caused by a spark or 'flashover' at Yong Peng Main Substation Entrance (PMU).

However, its general manager Mohamed Noh Md Seth said the incident did not cause power outage in the state.

"Yes there was a spark at Yong Peng PMU this afternoon but users in the state were not affected by the supply disruption," he said when contacted.

A 25-second viral video claimed that there was a spark in Yong Peng PMU.

Noh further said Johor TNB had opened an operations room in preparation to deal with supply disruptions.

"I advise all users not to panic and as I have said we have activated the operating room as early as 1.22pm.

"We are waiting for a statement from the head office on this matter," he said.

Meanwhile, the Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed that it had not received any emergency calls regarding the incident.

Earlier, TNB confirmed that several areas in the Peninsula faced power outage since 12.39pm. Power cuts were reported in Klang Valley, Penang, Perak, Kedah and Pahang.

It had in a statement said the power outage involved 2.2GW which represented 10 per cent of the total electricity supply demanded.

The electricity supply was fully restored at 3.02pm, it had said.
