Power outage: Over 10 cases of victims stuck in elevators in Selangor
PETALING JAYA - A woman faced a terrifying moment as she was trapped in an elevator at a shopping mall at Section 13 here today.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said a team of firemen from the Damansara Fire and Rescue Station were rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.13pm.
"Upon arrival, we found out that the lift was stuck on the fourth floor with a 28-year-old woman in it.
"The victim was successfully extricated after being trapped for around 10 minutes," he told Sinar Harian on Wednesday.
Norazam said the victim did not suffer any injuries and that the incident took place as the six-storey premises lost its electricity supply earlier today.
Aside from this case, the department also received over 10 reports of victims who were trapped in elevators during the power outage.
Among the locations of the cases were in Ampang, Setia Alam, Penchala, Kajang, Serdang, Damansara, Subang, Pandan and Sungai Buloh which involved premises such as high-rise condominiums and office buildings.
Earlier, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) confirmed that several areas in the Peninsula faced power outage.
It had in a statement announced that power outage involved 2.2GW which represented 10 per cent of the total electricity supply demanded.
Among the areas affected were Petaling Jaya, Cheras, Bangi, Bayan Lepas, Seberang Jaya, Panchor and Bandar Indera Makhota.
The electricity supply was fully restored at 3.02pm.
