Power outage hits Klang Valley, various states
AMY EZREENSHAH ALAM - Several states in the Peninsula incuding Klang Valley, Penang, Perak, Kedah and Pahang experienced power outages today.
Social media users expressed their dissatisfaction that outages had affected Cheras, Subang, Ampang, Kepong, Hartamas, Bukit Damansara, and Shah Alam which started at about noon.
Checks on social media revealed that major shopping malls such as the iconic Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Pyramid in Subang Jaya also were also among the premises affected.
A Twitter user named Sara stated that shopping centres like Publika, 1 Mont Kiara and Sunway Pyramid allegedly have also lost power.
Meanwhile, another Twitter user Maween (@mwnkenobi) said that all of the stores in Suria KLCC were dark as the power outage took place.
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in a brief statement on its Facebook page acknowledged that there was a power outage which affected several areas.
“Our technical team is in the midst of identifying the cause of the incident. Efforts are underway to restore the electricity supply,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the blackout also affected the transportation system in the city centre.
Public transport operator RapidKL said the electricity outage affected its services especially the Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines.
"Passengers are advised to be patient and please follow the instructions given.
“Passengers are also advised to use alternative transport," they said in a statement.
