KUALA LUMPUR - Hisyam Teh Poh Teik has been appointed as the lead counsel for Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the latter's final appeal over the misappropriation of the SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.

In a letter to the deputy registrar of the Federal Court, the other lawyers in the defence team who will be representing Najib were Liew Teck Huat and Rueben Mathiaravanam.

Law firm Messrs Zaid brahim Suffian TH Liew & Partners (ZIST) had in a letter informed that Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah will no longer be representing Najib in the final appeal which will be heard at the Federal Court, next month.

“We are applying for the court to record the change in solicitor and lawyer as stated.

“We also ask for the court to set new dates for mention and case management as soon as possible that fits the court’s schedule to allow the counsel to submit the latest information and obtain further instructions from the court,” the letter stated.

The case management date has been fixed on July 29 while the hearing of the appeal was fixed from 15 to 25 Aug.

On Dec 8, last year, the Court of Appeal upheld Najib’s conviction, 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine made by the Kuala Lumpur High Court after he was found guilty of seven counts over the misappropriation of funds from SRC International.

The day before, the same court rejected Najib’s application to introduce additional evidences in his appeal on grounds that there were special circumstances.
