KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Tetuan Shafee & Co lawyers will no longer represent Datuk Seri Najib Razak after the former Prime Minister terminated its services in the final appeal for the misappropriation of funds worth RM42 million owned by SRC International Sdn Bhd case.

Tetuan Shafee & Co law firm informed the matter through the submission of a Notice of Cessation of Practise as an Advocate and Solicitors letter to the office of the Deputy Registrar of the Federal Court here today.

In the letter, Tetuan Shafee & Co stated that the law firm received the letter from Najib at 5pm on Monday which informed Shafee and other lawyers that they were terminated with immediate effect.

The letter also stated that Najib had elected Tetuan Zaid Ibrahim Suffian TH Liew & Partners (ZIST) as his new solicitor.

“We are in the midst of completing the handover of the documents both physically and digitally to ZIST.

“We expect that it would be done latest by today,” the letter read.

Shafee and Tetuan Shafee & Co were appointed to represent Najib in the proceeding at the Sessions Court here in July 2018.

ON July 21, the High Court had rejected former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application to have Queen's Counsel Jonathan Laidlaw represent him in the final appeal at the Federal Court against his July 2020 conviction involving ex-1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) subsidiary SRC International Sdn Bhd.
