Cops to summon ‘Turun’ rally participants

SHAH ALAM - Police will summon individuals who participated in #Turun movement protest held near a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur, today.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the police have opened investigation papers under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 and have identified 30 individuals out of about 100 participants of the protest.

“Based on the investigation, about 100 participants consisted of students, members of political parties, several identified and yet to be identified individuals have gathered to hold a #Turun rally while holding placards and banners saying ‘cut the ministers’ salary’, ‘get down and fight” and many others.

“As of now, over 30 individuals have been identified and those who participated in the rally will be summoned to Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters to have their statements recorded soon,” he said in a statement.

He advised the public not to be involved in any activities that were against the law and that serious action would be taken against those who committed offences.

#Turun movement protest was hosted by Turun Malaysia committee member Amir Abdul Hadi who expressed his utmost disappointment and stressed the ministers’ salaries should be cut down to ease the burden of the people as well as demanding the government to take action on the rising price of necessities.

The crowd, led by activist Sevan Doraisamy attempted to march from the shopping mall at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman towards Dataran Merdeka but were unsuccessful as police formed a human barricade to block the group from marching forward.
