The identities of two burn victims have been identified

PAITAN - The identities of the two victims who were burnt after a ship carrying gasoline that they were on caught fire, have been identified.

The victims who were Mohd Jefri Kaung, 36, and his friend Taufik Jamil, 19, were currently being treated at Pitas Hospital after suffering injuries.

Beluran fire and rescue station chief Edoen Machel said both victims were taken to the hospital by a public member when the incident occurred.

"Mohd Jefri suffered 60 per cent burns all over his body while Taufik suffered eight per cent burns.

"Both victims are still at the Pitas Hospital receiving treatment," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian, on Saturday.

He said based on the operation carried out at the scene, it was found that the ship was 100 per cent destroyed and the operation to put out the fire ended at about 9.17am.

On Friday, Sinar Harian reported that two men were burnt after a ship traveling from Pulau Jambongan, Beluran, to get subsidised fuel at the Paitan jetty caught fire.
