SHAH ALAM - Umno is a grand party with a strong grassroots which has existed for a long time but people are losing faith due to their top leaders’ involvement in scandals, says Bersatu Youth Chief.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said it is undeniable that the Malay party holds such strong influence having been established pre-independence thus making it a challenge for his party to gain traction within the Malays.

“We have to understand and give credit to Umno.

“Umno is a grand, old party if I may use that and they have been there since independence days so they are the best at grassroot strengths.

“But they are also now riddled with scandals, hence many, especially the non-bumiputera and certain Malay voters, are losing faith in them,” he told Sinar Daily.

The Deputy Unity Minister said Bersatu as a new party, however, was run by former Umno leaders who were equally experienced and also offers a new and fresh vision with integrity intact.

He said it was possible for Bersatu to create many changes with the 15th General Election (GE15) like what they did with Pakatan Harapn back in the 2018 during the 14th General Election.

Talking about the GE15, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said Bersatu is focusing to uniting as one in order to face and win the polls.

He further said that they were on good talking terms with their coalition partners as they work towards winning the election.

“We are able to propose our own Prime Minister candidate and we are on good talking terms with their coalition partners like Pas.

“As we have seen in Melaka and Johor, we have our own strength but not strong enough to secure that final blow to ensure the seats belong to us,” he added.
