SHAH ALAM - Representatives of #RasuahBusters Coalition urge the Special advisor to the Prime Minister (Laws and Human Rights) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said Azalina to discuss with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob the issue of freedom and transparency of public institutions.

One of the representatives, who is also the executive director at the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) Cynthia Gabriel said the move needs to be prioritised to strengthen and free institutions like the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the Attorney General’s Chamber and the prosecutor from the political influence.

“We want an answer before the general election on how these institutions can be empowered again, and this is the right time to bring a change to the people’s prosecutor’s office.

“These three institutions need to be separated from the executive branch or political pressure in order to ensure justice and enhance incredibility.

“Therefore we urge Datuk Seri Azalina who is an advisor to the law and human rights, to discuss with the PM urgently (now) so that he will raise this important issue to the cabinet members, also gives an assurance to people that the respected institutions will be separated,” she said.

Cynthia was speaking at a press conference organised by #RasuahBusters titled Six Political Demands #MalaysiaTanpaRasuah ‘Apa Dah Jadi?’ which took place at Kumpulan Karangkraf here today.

Other panellists present during the press conference were Rasuah Busters chief Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs Chief Executive Officer Tricia Yeoh and The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) chairman Thomas Fann.

Other than that, also present were Undi18 co-founder Tharma Pillai, Gabungan Bertindak Malaysia (GBM) chairman Badlishah Sham Baharin and Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) president Dr Muhammad Mohan.
