Perlis tourism industry players to be more creative with Padang Besar-Hatyai shuttle train service
PADANG BESAR - Tourism industry players in Perlis should seize opportunities available to attract more tourists to the state via the Padang Besar-Hatyai, Thailand, shuttle train service which resumed operation since last Friday.
State Tourism Committee chairman Asmaiza Ahmad said they needed to be more creative to get tourists to not make the state as just a transit point to their destinations.
"We should get them to stay one night in the state before continuing their journey to other destinations,” she told reporters before boarding the shuttle train to Hatyai here today.
Asmaiza, along with 14 media members, and delegates from the Perlis government, will be in Hatyai for a one day working visit.
According to her, Perlis has been recording the arrival of at least 200 tourists daily from Thailand since the shuttle train service resumed operation last Friday,
She said the state government was targeting to attract six million tourists to Perlis by 2030.
The shuttle train service between Padang Besar, in Perlis, Malaysia and Hatyai, in Thailand, resumed operation last Friday after a two-year halt due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to KTM Bhd's website, the train service offers two trips daily between Padang Besar and Hatyai.
