Mother under remand for 11-year old's death
BATU PAHAT - An 11-year-old child was found dead in a home at Taman Bukit Tropika, Yong Peng here, today.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said wounds were found on her forehead with strangulation marks on her neck.
“Early investigations show the incident took place around 4.55pm.
“Witness statements were taken to help with the investigations,” he told reporters, here.
He said the victim’s 34-year-old mother has been arrested following inconsistent statements with statements given by other witnesses.
The victim’s mother has been arrested for further investigations, he said, adding that the Batu Pahat Magistrate has allowed a seven-day remand until July 21.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty upon conviction.
He added the victim's body was brought to Batu Pahat Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
