SEPANG - The government has agreed to establish One-Stop Quarantine Centres (OSQC) at the import and export entrances of the country to fortify biosecurity control.

Agriculture and Food Industry (MAFI) Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said as a start, the OSQC would be established in Port Klang.

"The National Food Security Committee agreed to establish it after a meeting last week.

"The OSQC will prepare quarantine facilities and agro-food safety facilities that include inspection, quarantine treatment, testing, research, monitoring and disposal of agricultural commodities and agro-food products.

"At the time, it is still in the detailed stages," he said.

He said the high-tech technology, automated, modern and standard equipment would be used to help Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) to ensure their biosecurity control goals were achieved.

"Inspections in OSQC would be quick and detailed," he said in a press conference after conducting a survey of the import and export operations of agricultural and animal products at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Cargo Complex here on Thursday.
