Negeri Sembilan records 15,225 Influenza cases

SEREMBAN - Negeri Sembilan records 15,225 cases of Influenza-like illnesses (ILI) on the 27th epidemiological week ending on July 9.

Negeri Sembilan Health, Environment, Cooperatives and Consumerism exco S Veerapan said the cumulative cases were 1,762 cases, which is a six per cent drop from the previous week.

"Seremban district recorded the highest total number of cases which is 4,923, followed by Tampin (3,877), Jempol (2,255), Jelebu (2,050), Kuala Pilah (973), Port Dickson (824) and Rembau (323)," he said in a statement today.

He said the cumulative ILI outbreaks in Negeri Sembilan this year was nine, however, none were active.

He said there would be no closure of schools or kindergartens and there were no recorded deaths caused by ILI or influenza have been reported.

"Influenza is not included in the list of illnesses that must be notified and has been in the country for a while.

"ILI surveillance is collected every week to monitor the consultation rates of ILI cases in clinics," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the infection would cause symptoms such as fever, runny nose, sore throat, coughing, headaches, body sores, difficulty of breathing, diarrhoea and abdominal pain.

Veerapan said the infection could cause major symptoms for high-risk individuals such as children or the elderly.

"For individuals with symptoms, avoid going to public areas.

"The influenza vaccine can be taken yearly and can be obtained through private facilities," he said.
