Ignore brickbats over shoes and perform your duties, Tunku Ismail tells Johor MB
JOHOR BAHRU - The Regent of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has asked state Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to ignore brickbats over his luxury shoes and advised him to focus on his job.
Tunku Ismail through his Twitter account made a sarcastic response to the issue suggesting Onn Hafiz to wear slippers now.
"Things like this can become an issue? Datuk I suggest that you should just wear slippers.
"Just yesterday I thought about giving a watch to Datuk and a few government officers as gifts.
"Datuk, my advice is to just continue with the duties for Johor. Don't entertain what people said. What's important is work," he said after Onn Hafiz's shoes stirred reaction from the public over its exclusivity and price.
On Monday, Onn Hafiz was reported to deny purchasing a pair of shoes worth thousands of ringgit.
In a Facebook post, he said the shoes were a gift from the Johor Sultan, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
Previously, a few Chinese newspapers reported the shoe issue from a social media account that accused Onn Hafiz of buying the shoe worth thousands of ringgit, causing reaction from other media users, claiming to be almost RM40,000.
